Accelera, a zero-emissions division of Cummins Inc., has teamed up with Isuzu Motors Limited to launch a cutting-edge battery electric powertrain for the Isuzu F-Series medium-duty truck. This innovative system, slated for production in 2027, promises to deliver a fully integrated solution that helps fleets reduce their carbon footprint. Showcased at the ACT Expo in Anaheim, California, from April 28 to May 1, this powertrain combines advanced technology with practical design to meet the rising demand for sustainable commercial vehicles in North America.
Key Highlights
- Fully Integrated Design: The powertrain merges Accelera’s next-generation battery, eAxle, accessories, and controls into one seamless system.
- Next-Gen Battery Tech: Features lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, offering longer cycle life, enhanced safety, and cost savings.
- Reliable eAxle: Includes the 14Xe eAxle with an ELFA motor and inverter, proven over nearly 30 years and 1 billion miles on the road.
- Compact PCAS 3.0: A 70% smaller, customizable Power Controls and Accessory System that’s durable and easy to service.
- Class 6 and 7 Focus: Tailored for medium-duty trucks, ideal for urban deliveries and regional routes.
- Made in the USA: Many components, like batteries and eAxles, are manufactured or assembled domestically.
This powertrain aims to lower the total cost of ownership, making battery electric trucks a viable alternative to diesel models. The F-Series will also feature a redesigned low-cab forward chassis, improving maneuverability and driver comfort for diverse applications, from city runs to longer hauls. Accelera’s President, Amy Davis, emphasized, “This launch highlights our leadership in zero-emissions technology and our dedication to customer-focused solutions.” By blending performance, efficiency, and sustainability, this collaboration sets a new standard for decarbonizing commercial transportation, paving the way for a greener future in the industry.
