EQXX Sets New Electric Efficiency Record

The Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX has once again pushed the boundaries of electric vehicle efficiency by completing a groundbreaking journey from Riyadh to Dubai, covering over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge. Demonstrating unparalleled energy efficiency, the VISION EQXX technology program showcased its capabilities in the demanding conditions of the Arabian Desert, achieving an electric power consumption of just 7.4 kWh/100 km. This achievement not only sets a new record but also provides critical data for the ongoing development of Mercedes-Benz electric platforms, aiming to meet and exceed customer needs worldwide.

Key Highlights:

  • Unmatched Efficiency: Achieved a consumption of 7.4 kWh/100 km.
  • Long-Distance Record: Completed over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge in the Middle East.
  • Advanced Testing: Conducted in up to 34°C, testing electric efficiency technologies under extreme conditions.
  • Innovative Features: Highlighted the solar roof and advanced thermal management system.
EQXX Sets New Electric Efficiency Record

During its third significant long-distance expedition, the VISION EQXX traversed busy city streets and vast desert landscapes, all while maintaining exceptional energy efficiency. Markus Schäfer, a leading figure at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, emphasized the vehicle’s performance under harsh conditions, stating, “As expected, all systems performed perfectly in the desert conditions”, and highlighted the readiness of electric drive for global markets.

The journey started from the Mercedes-Benz Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and concluded at the new Mercedes-Benz Brand Center in Dubai, UAE. The VISION EQXX’s route included varied terrain and conditions, showcasing its robustness and efficiency across urban and desert environments.

The trip also served as a platform to test key technology features such as the car’s thermal management system and its solar roof, which houses 117 solar cells. These cells play a crucial role in powering vehicle ancillaries, thereby enhancing overall efficiency. The drive demonstrated the potential of solar energy in extending vehicle range, with the system harvesting 1.8 kWh of solar energy, adding approximately 24 km to the overall range.

Collaboration between the driving team and the car’s intelligent efficiency assistant was pivotal in maximizing energy efficiency. The assistant provided real-time suggestions for the most efficient driving styles, taking into account various environmental factors such as wind and sunlight.

The VISION EQXX not only reaffirms Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to electric mobility but also serves as a luxurious and efficient ambassador for electric vehicles worldwide. Its impressive performance in diverse conditions continues to contribute valuable insights into the future of electric vehicle technology and sustainability.
