JOLT and Tamoil to bring ultra-fast EV charging to Tamoil stations in the Netherlands

Ridderkerk & Munich – JOLT and Tamoil Nederland are delighted to announce their agreement to deploy JOLT’s MerlinOne Ultra-Fast charging stations at up to 33 urban Tamoil service stations in The Netherlands, starting in 2022.

“The collaboration with JOLT marks the start of a rapid transition to servicing our growing e-mobility customer base. The MerlinOne Ultra-Fast Charger is a key enabler for scaling up our e-mobility offering in a flexible manner, overcoming the challenge of long and costly electricity grid upgrades. We’re excited to embark on this e-journey together with JOLT.” says Ronald Kempen, Managing Director of Tamoil Nederland B.V.

The MerlinOne charging station is designed and developed by JOLT specifically for city charging situations, where the existing electricity grid makes the provision of ultra-fast charging difficult. “Once the project is operational, drivers will be able to top-up their weekly driving needs in 10 to 15 minutes; a significant improvement compared to existing home and street-based charging alternatives” according to Maurice Neligan, CEO of JOLT.

Tamoil has been active on the Dutch fuel market for more than 70 years. It operates currently 225 fuel stations in the Netherlands and thus has a market share of more than 5%. The company invests in sustainability and is socially involved. For example, Tamoil offers customers sustainable fuels at a large number of stations and produces green electricity for its network of stations using its share in Zonnepark XXL in Assen. Tamoil is part of the Oilinvest Group, an oil company with fuel stations in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and the Netherlands. The head office of Tamoil Nederland B.V. is located in Ridderkerkt.

JOLT Energy Group is a Dublin, Munich & Boston based group established in 2017 by a team of former automotive and power engineering managers with the goal of changing the tradition conventions of urban charging. JOLT is committed to building a network of ultra-fast chargers in major cities over the next decade. JOLT uses advanced mobile charging stations with integrated batteries to supplement the weaknesses of the existing electricity grid. In some cases, this means deploying charging stations to operate like battery packs on city streets and swapping them with freshly charged units when they are depleted.

This collaborative project with Tamoil will be part of JOLT’s ChargeMyCity campaign, which is focused on promoting the mobility transition in communities, by bringing site owners, financing and charger operations together in regional charging projects.
