The starting price for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class plug-in hybrid is $122,550, and it is expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2023.
The hybrid drive system of the S 580e 4MATIC includes a 3.0L I-6 six-cylinder engine with 367 hp and a 21.5kWh battery paired with a synchronous electric motor. The combination of the engine and electric motor generates a total output of 510 hp. The vehicle can operate without using the combustion engine thanks to the powerful electric motor and large battery. The all-electric range of the vehicle is more than 100 km (~62 miles) according to WLTP, which is more than double the range of the previous model.
The S 580e 4MATIC is equipped with a 9.6 kW charger for at-home and public charging, and an optional 60 kW DC charger is available for fast charging. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes with the 60 kW DC charger.
The S 580e 4MATIC offers the highest level of standard equipment and customization options for a luxury flagship vehicle. It combines luxurious form and intelligent function to deliver unparalleled levels of comfort, refinement, and safety.
The optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL active suspension is now available in the S 580e 4MATIC, offering even more driving comfort and agility when combined with the standard AIRMATIC air suspension. The system regulates the spring and damper forces on each wheel individually, counteracting roll, pitching, and lifting movements. E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL operates on 48-volts, and is available for models equipped with an on-board electrical system of this type and 4MATIC.
