Schaeffler’s New Ohio Facility to Focus on eMobility

Schaeffler, a global leader in motion technology, has announced a significant expansion in the United States with a new automotive manufacturing facility in Dover, Ohio. This development is part of Schaeffler’s ambitious plan to invest over USD 230 million by 2032, aiming to advance its position in the electric mobility sector and stimulate job growth in the region.

The company’s investment will not only enhance its innovative capabilities but also contribute substantially to the local economy by creating 650 new jobs. This move is in collaboration with the State of Ohio and JobsOhio, which will support Schaeffler through incentives, including grants and tax credits.

Scheduled to start construction in mid-2024, the new facility is expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2025. Covering approximately 130,000 square feet, it will focus on producing electric mobility solutions, particularly electric axles for light and medium-duty vehicles. Marc McGrath, CEO of Schaeffler Americas, highlighted the facility’s role in reinforcing the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the Americas.

Sustainability and innovation are central to Schaeffler’s strategy, with the new facility incorporating eco-friendly practices and utilizing state-of-the-art production technology. This aligns with Schaeffler’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2040.

The Dover facility is strategically placed near major automotive OEMs, suppliers, and Schaeffler’s existing Wooster location, which specializes in transmission systems and serves as an innovation hub. This proximity is crucial for fostering collaboration and efficiency.

The project will generate approximately 450 jobs by 2032, spanning various roles from manufacturing to engineering and quality control. Schaeffler’s commitment to innovation extends to partnerships with local technical colleges, ensuring a skilled workforce ready to contribute to the future of electric mobility.

For over four decades, Schaeffler has viewed Ohio as a key partner, benefiting from the state’s skilled workforce and supportive business environment. This expansion is a testament to Schaeffler’s long-term commitment to Ohio, further evidenced by recent expansions in Wooster and collaborations with The Ohio State University.

As Schaeffler prepares for a groundbreaking event to celebrate this significant expansion, the company’s focus remains on driving forward electrification and supporting its clients in achieving emission reduction targets. This initiative not only demonstrates Schaeffler’s technological leadership but also its dedication to contributing positively to the communities it operates in.
