FLO, a prominent electric vehicle (EV) charging network operator in North America, has notably enhanced the electric vehicle charging infrastructure at General Motors’ (GM) Global Technical Center. This initiative marks the largest workplace charging deployment for FLO across a single site in North America, underlining a significant step towards supporting the growing EV charging needs of employees and visitors alike.

Key Highlights:

  • Expansion of EV charging infrastructure at GM’s Global Technical Center by FLO.
  • Addition of FLO CoRe+ chargers and SmartDC fast chargers.
  • Use of renewable energy from DTE’s MIGreenPower program for charging.
  • Over 1,200 chargers have been shipped to GM facilities by FLO.
  • FLO chargers are engineered for durability and to withstand adverse weather conditions.

Louis Tremblay, President and CEO of FLO, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “GM’s Global Technical Center is at the heart of its engineering and technological innovation, and it only makes sense for FLO to help power its workforce, a fellow innovator in the EV space in Michigan.” This expansion not only caters to the immediate EV charging needs but also aligns with GM’s commitment to sustainable practices, as highlighted by Kristen Siemen, GM Vice President Sustainable Workplaces & Chief Sustainability Officer, who remarked on the significance of integrating renewable technology in their charging solutions.

Moreover, the collaboration extends to leveraging renewable energy sources, with the charging units powered by Michigan-made wind and solar energy, as part of the MIGreenPower program. Tony Tomczak, DTE vice president of Electric Sales & Marketing, affirmed the shared goal of making EVs and their charging infrastructure more accessible, backed by renewable energy, thus enhancing the sustainability of EV charging solutions.

The chargers, shipped from FLO’s facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan, are designed to be both durable and weather-resistant, ensuring reliability across various conditions. Since the initiation of the workplace chargers program in 2021, FLO has supplied over 1,200 chargers to GM, evidencing a robust partnership aimed at facilitating the transition to electric vehicles through enhanced charging infrastructure and sustainability efforts.
