Honda is taking significant steps to revolutionize its manufacturing approach with the establishment of the Honda EV Hub in Ohio. This initiative will enable the production of petrol, hybrid-electric, and battery-electric vehicles on a single production line. Set to launch in 2025, the Acura Performance EV Concept will be the first electric vehicle (EV) manufactured at the Ohio plant. Additionally, Honda is focusing on human-friendly and environmentally responsible production processes, with a goal of creating high-quality, efficient vehicles for the future.
Key Highlights:
- Multi-vehicle production lines: Petrol, hybrid, and battery-electric vehicles will be built on the same manufacturing lines.
- Innovative manufacturing approach: Focus on human-friendly and environmentally responsible production processes.
- First EV launch in 2025: The Acura Performance EV Concept will debut at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio.
- New megacasting capability: The Anna Engine Plant will produce larger IPU cases for EVs, marking a new global capability for Honda.
- $700 million investment: Honda has committed to retooling its Ohio facilities, with a joint venture with LG Energy Solution investing $4.4 billion in a battery plant.
- Sustaining hybrid and petrol production: Alongside EVs, Honda will continue to produce hybrid and petrol vehicles to meet customer demand.
Honda’s approach to manufacturing goes beyond just producing electric vehicles. The Marysville Auto Plant, East Liberty Auto Plant, and the Anna Engine Plant are undergoing extensive retooling, aimed at achieving a more efficient and environmentally friendly production environment. By simplifying design, manufacturing, and logistics, Honda is reducing complexity on the production floor, which includes reducing walking distances for workers and creating optimized layouts for parts delivery.
The Anna Engine Plant will house megacasting machines, a new capability for Honda that will enable the production of much larger IPU cases. These cases, essential for EV production, will be paired with battery modules from Honda’s joint venture with LG Energy Solution to create mid- and large-sized Intelligent Power Units (IPUs).
Honda’s electrification strategy includes making 100% of its vehicle sales battery-electric or fuel-cell electric by 2040. While the focus is on EVs, Honda will continue producing hybrid and petrol vehicles to meet demand, using profits from these sales to fuel its investments in the EV transition.
Honda’s manufacturing presence in the U.S. is significant, with over 23,000 employees supporting 12 plants across the country. With a history of producing over 30 million vehicles in the U.S., Honda’s Ohio EV Hub marks the next chapter in its innovative manufacturing legacy.
