Legrand Unveils First Residential EV Charger

What’s Happening

Global electrical solutions pioneer, Legrand, is stepping into the electric vehicle (EV) charging sector with the introduction of its premier residential EV charger. The Plug-In Home Level 2 EV Charger, devised for safety, speed, and efficiency, offers a compact yet potent solution for EV owners requiring rapid home charging solutions, both indoors and outdoors.

Why It Matters

As Scott Bausch, VP and General Manager for Legrand’s wiring device business, highlighted, the surge in electric vehicle adoption necessitates the development of swift, secure, and uncomplicated home charging methods. This latest offering from Legrand aligns with the company’s century-old commitment to safety and quality in the electrical sector, providing a simple, high-speed EV charging solution.

Key Points

The new Plug-In Home Level 2 EV Charger from Legrand requires no complex setup or configuration. Users need only to plug the stand-alone unit into a 50A power outlet to begin charging. Equipped with a SAE J1772 Connector, which is the North American standard, the charger is compatible with any electric vehicle, albeit a Tesla-specific adapter is required.

Despite its compact design, the Legrand charger is capable of delivering 40A with an output of 9.6kW, significantly outperforming Level 1 models. This power enables it to recharge an EV’s battery from 0 to 100% in merely 8-10 hours, with an extended range of up to 38 miles per hour of charging. Furthermore, the unit is user-friendly, featuring an 18-foot-long cord that can easily be stored on an included hook and holster to maintain tidiness when not in use.

Bottom Line

Legrand’s Plug-In Home Level 2 EV Charger, now available in the US, sets a new standard for home EV charging solutions. With its Energy Star® Certification for efficiency, users may also qualify for potential rebates and tax credits. Looking ahead, Legrand anticipates releasing a hard-wired version of this residential EV charger later in the year. With a perfect blend of safety, charging speed, and user-friendly design, Legrand’s EV charger paves the way for the future of residential electric vehicle charging.
