Polestar has introduced a new feature to its flagship SUV, the Polestar 3, known as Plug & Charge. This addition simplifies the charging process for customers by automating authentication and payment at compatible public charging stations. Acting as a digital wallet, the vehicle communicates directly with the charger, removing multiple steps from the traditional process. Currently available at over 9,500 high-power charging points, including Ionity and Mer stations, this feature will expand to other Polestar models by 2025.
Key Highlights:
- Plug & Charge simplifies the charging process by automating payment and authentication.
- 9,500+ charging points are available, including select Ionity and Mer locations.
- Drivers no longer need to manually select charging locations or initiate payments via the app or card.
- The feature is available through the Polestar Charge App with access to over 800,000 public charging points across Europe.
- The functionality is currently exclusive to the Polestar 3, with plans to expand to other models by 2025.
- The Polestar Charge app also provides subscription-based fast charging with discounted rates.
- Lutz Stiegler, CTO of Polestar, highlighted the feature’s convenience and its future availability across other Polestar models.
Polestar 3 owners can activate Plug & Charge by adjusting the vehicle’s charging settings and connecting it to the Polestar Charge App or another e-mobility service provider. This integration removes the hassle of selecting charging stations manually, confirming connections, and processing payments. Customers will find the process seamless as their vehicle communicates directly with compatible chargers.
The Polestar Charge App further enhances the charging experience by offering access to an extensive network of public charging points across Europe, making charging both more accessible and cost-effective.
