Revolutionary All-Solid-State Battery Unveiled by Factorial

Factorial Inc. has introduced Solstice™, an innovative all-solid-state battery developed in partnership with Mercedes-Benz. This breakthrough technology offers superior safety, efficiency, and sustainability for electric vehicles (EVs). With a high energy density that can extend EV range by up to 80%, Solstice™ aims to transform both electric mobility and consumer electronics industries. The battery, expected to hit the market by the end of the decade, sets a new benchmark in battery manufacturing by reducing environmental impact and operating costs.

Key Highlights:

  • Partnership with Mercedes-Benz: Solstice™ is developed through a collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, aligning with the automaker’s goal of leading advancements in battery technology.
  • Higher Energy Density: Solstice™ achieves a 450Wh/kg energy density, extending electric vehicle range by up to 80% and significantly improving efficiency.
  • Advanced Safety Features: The battery uses a sulfide-based all-solid-state electrolyte system, addressing safety concerns associated with flammable liquid electrolytes. It aims for a EUCAR safety rating of 2 and can operate at temperatures above 90°C.
  • Sustainable Production: A dry coating process reduces the need for hazardous solvents and energy-intensive manufacturing steps, cutting down energy use and operating costs.
  • Market Expansion: In addition to automotive applications, Solstice™ targets consumer electronics, expanding Factorial’s market reach.
  • Collaborative Development: Mercedes-Benz’s involvement is part of a joint development agreement with Factorial, following a $200MM investment in 2022.

Factorial’s CEO, Siyu Huang, stated: “Solstice™ not only will enhance the range and performance of electric vehicles but also aligns with our vision for a more sustainable future.”

Solstice™’s innovations promise to revolutionize battery production, making it more environmentally friendly by eliminating traditional solvent-based processes and reducing the energy-intensive formation stage in lithium-ion battery manufacturing. This move supports Factorial’s commitment to sustainable battery technology and positions the company as a leader in the transition to electric mobility.

Factorial’s partnership with Mercedes-Benz, along with its proprietary FEST® platform, places the company at the forefront of the next generation of solid-state batteries. By expanding its scope to include consumer electronics, Factorial is poised to have a significant impact on multiple industries by the end of the decade.
