Wallbox’s $25.6M Push for EV Accessibility

Wallbox, a pioneer in EV charging and energy management, alongside its subsidiary COIL and partners Clean and Prosperous Institute and Adopt a Charger, have been awarded $25.6 million. This funding, provided by the Washington Department of Commerce’s Electric Vehicle Charging Program, aims to install Wallbox’s Pulsar Pro AC Level 2 chargers at 148 multifamily properties across Washington, focusing on environmental justice communities.

Key Highlights:

  • $25.6 million awarded to deploy EV chargers across 148 properties.
  • Wallbox Pulsar Pro chargers to be installed, featuring dynamic power sharing.
  • Initiative emphasizes environmental justice communities.
  • Part of Washington’s broader $85 million clean transportation effort.
  • Collaboration showcases public-private partnership for sustainable transportation.

Erik Fogelberg, General Manager of Wallbox North America, highlighted the importance of this project, stating, “One of the most commonly cited concerns for prospective EV drivers is access to EV charging, especially for those who do not live in detached houses. Wallbox and the State of Washington have a shared commitment of ensuring that chargers are deployed across all use cases, including multifamily housing, to ensure that benefits of going electric are accessible to all.”

The Pulsar Pro AC Level 2 chargers, designed specifically for North American commercial and multifamily residential use, stand out for their innovative features such as RFID integration, ISO 15118 readiness, and a dynamic power sharing capability. This technology allows for efficient power distribution among connected EVs, minimizing the need for extensive infrastructure upgrades.

The installation projects, spearheaded by COIL and Resound Energy, aim to address the unique challenges of providing EV charging solutions in multifamily housing settings. This initiative is part of Washington’s larger $85 million commitment announced by Governor Jay Inslee, focusing on clean transportation and improving air quality.

Michael Furze, Assistant Director of the Energy Division at the Washington State Department of Commerce, expressed the state’s dedication to leading in transportation electrification, emphasizing the role of public-private partnerships in achieving this goal.

This project not only supports Washington’s environmental objectives but also serves as a model for integrating EV charging infrastructure into multifamily residential areas, making electric vehicle ownership more feasible for a broader audience.
