AT&T has partnered with Voltpost, an electric vehicle (EV) charging company specializing in lamppost retrofits, to bring IoT connectivity to EV charging posts across Michigan and the Metro-Detroit area. This partnership aims to improve EV charging efficiency, connectivity, and access, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future.
Key highlights include:
- AT&T and Voltpost collaborate to enhance IoT connectivity for EV chargers.
- Voltpost transforms existing lampposts into scalable EV charging platforms.
- The initiative supports Michigan’s sustainable transportation infrastructure.
Voltpost’s mission is to deliver sustainable EV charging solutions to diverse communities by retrofitting lampposts into modular EV charging points. This method significantly lowers the cost and installation time, allowing for scalable curbside and parking lot charging options that can be deployed efficiently in cities and by private companies. Voltpost’s connected charging infrastructure serves a wide array of public and private clients, including government agencies, real estate developers, universities, and parking facilities.
AT&T’s IoT connectivity plays a key role in ensuring charger uptime and maintaining reliable charging services for EV drivers. The integration of connectivity aims to streamline the operation of charging networks, maximizing convenience for users.
AT&T and Voltpost recently co-hosted a Connected Mobility Leadership event, which gathered key players from AT&T Connected Solutions, Voltpost, and stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. This event spotlighted AT&T’s ongoing commitment to connected mobility and its strategic partnership with Voltpost. During the keynote, Gabe Klein, Executive Director of the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, emphasized the importance of innovative solutions for curbside charging, particularly the potential for these new technologies to harness existing infrastructure to meet urban needs.
In speaking about the collaboration, Joe Mosele, Vice President at AT&T Connected Solutions, stated, “We are dedicated to fostering innovation and supporting emerging tech that will shape the transportation sector. As cities move toward a more sustainable future, enabling cities to scale their charging networks with existing infrastructure and advanced connectivity is a game-changer. We look forward to continuing our work with Voltpost and supporting groundbreaking initiatives that propel the industry forward.”
Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO and Co-Founder of Voltpost, added, “Expanding access to EV charging is key to democratizing electric mobility and advancing the transition to renewable energy. Our collaboration with AT&T enables us to deploy highly connected and convenient EV infrastructure that equips communities with much-needed charging access.”
Voltpost has a pipeline of upcoming deployments, with chargers slated for installation at various sites across Michigan, New York, and Illinois in the coming months. These efforts are in line with AT&T’s “gigaton goal” – a commitment to help business customers reduce one billion metric tons of CO2 emissions by 2035, leveraging solutions backed by connectivity like fiber, 5G, and IoT. The partnership also supports the goal of promoting cleaner and more sustainable cities.
