The activesphere’s autonomous chauffeuring capability on suitable terrain means that the driver can have a more relaxed driving experience, while the car’s new display and operating technology can be used in a variety of ways. The high-tech headsets provide the ability for the driver and passengers to interact with the car’s control panels and other virtual displays in a minimalist design that remains hidden to the unaided eye. Mixed reality optics gives users the ability to interact precisely with these real, yet invisible, touch-sensitive zones, as the headsets display and carry out functions by reacting in real time when users touch them.
The Audi activesphere concept was designed and developed at the Audi Design Studio in Malibu, California, where Studio Manager Gael Buzyn and his team are the creative minds behind the project. Buzyn describes the idea behind the activesphere as “unique”, and “a new type of crossover that cleverly combines the elegance of an Audi Sportback, the practicality of a SUV and true off-road capabilities.”
