BMW Group Plant Regensburg has reached a significant milestone, producing its 100,000th fully electric vehicle (EV) in 2024. The landmark vehicle, a BMW iX1 in Blue Bay Lagoon metallic, was shipped to La Réunion. Since November 2022, the plant has been manufacturing the BMW iX1, a compact premium model, for global markets.
Key Highlights:
- Record Production in 2024: Over 100,000 fully electric vehicles produced, with total annual output projected to exceed 330,000 units.
- Electrification Growth: More than a third of vehicles produced this year are electrified, including plug-in hybrids and all-electric models.
- Daily Output: Approximately 1,400 BMW X1 and X2 vehicles are produced each workday, with all drivetrain variants manufactured on a single production line.
- Awards and Recognition: Named “FACTORY OF THE YEAR 2024” for large-series assembly and recipient of the “Best Cars Award” for the BMW X1.
- Focus on Innovation: Continued progress toward the BMW iFactory model, emphasizing digitalization and efficiency.
Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG’s Board Member for Production, emphasized the company’s commitment to e-mobility, stating, “We offer a very wide range of fully-electric vehicles across all key segments. Our German plants produce these vehicles for the global market, delivering a major contribution to the growth of e-mobility.”
Driving Transformation at Regensburg
Plant Director Armin Ebner highlighted the team’s achievements, noting that 2024’s production targets for EVs have been met despite market volatility. He credited the plant’s success to its adaptability and team commitment.
“Our plant has become even more digital, more circular, and more efficient overall this year,” said Ebner. He also expressed pride in the plant’s contributions to sustainability and innovation, underscoring its transition toward electromobility.
Expanding Capabilities
The Regensburg plant continues to prepare for the future with the BMW iFactory, integrating digital and intelligent connectivity. Production for BMW’s next-generation NEUE KLASSE vehicles is scheduled to begin later this decade, reinforcing the plant’s role in BMW’s electrification strategy.
Additionally, the nearby Wackersdorf facility is evolving as a center for battery testing and Rolls-Royce component production, reflecting BMW’s broader push into electromobility. Together, these facilities employ approximately 9,250 people, including over 300 apprentices, making them pivotal to BMW’s innovation and global production network.
