Belgium – Green NCAP, an organization dedicated to rating the environmental performance of vehicles, has announced the winner of its 2022 awards. The Dacia Spring took home the title as the car with the lowest environmental impact, receiving an overall five-star rating.
The Dacia Spring was equipped with an electric powertrain and outperformed other electric vehicles such as the Tesla Model 3 and the Cupra Born. The compact city car received maximum results in the Clean Air Index and achieved Green NCAP’s highest score in the Greenhouse Gas Index and a never-before-seen 9.8 in the Energy Efficiency Index.
The test results showed that 89% of the energy withdrawn from the electrical grid is available at the output side of the battery, indicating an efficient charging and discharging process. This, combined with its pure electric powertrain and light weight, made the Dacia Spring an environmentally friendly choice.
In addition to the winner, Green NCAP released results for three petrol-fueled cars: the Kia Picanto (3-star rating), the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (2.5-star rating), and the VW Touran (2-star rating), as well as the diesel-fueled car the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka (3-star rating). The Dacia Spring received an overall score of 9.9, followed by the Tesla Model 3 (overall score 9.8).
With this result, Dacia has set a standard for the industry, delivering a green and eco-friendly vehicle that not only meets the needs of consumers but also addresses the sustainability challenges facing our planet.
Euro NCAP, the mother organization of Green NCAP, which rates vehicles on safety performance, would like to see Dacia make the same commitment to safety. The results offer the potential for consumers to make an ideal purchase choice that delivers both sustainability and safety performance.
