General Motors (GM) has issued a safety recall for certain 2024-2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV vehicles due to a defect in the rear parking brake wiring harness. This issue, identified under NHTSA Campaign Number 25V433000, affects approximately 40,233 vehicles and poses significant safety risks. The defect may cause unintended parking brake activation while driving or loss of parking brake function when parked, increasing the likelihood of crashes or rollaway incidents.
Key Highlights
- Affected Models: 2024-2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV vehicles.
- Issue: Damaged or corroded rear parking brake wiring harness.
- Safety Risks: Unintended brake activation or loss of brake function.
- Remedy: Free inspection, rerouting, and replacement if needed.
- Owner Notification: Letters mailed by August 11, 2025.
The recall stems from a design flaw in the parking brake wiring harness routing, which allows excessive flexing during normal driving conditions. This can lead to wire shorting or breaking, potentially triggering a “service parking brake” warning or preventing the vehicle from shifting out of park. If the parking brake engages unexpectedly while driving, it heightens the risk of a crash. Similarly, a loss of parking brake function could allow the vehicle to roll away unattended, creating another safety hazard.
GM dealers will address the issue by inspecting the wiring harness, rerouting it to prevent further damage, and applying anti-abrasive tape. If damage is found, the harness will be replaced at no cost to owners. The affected component, manufactured by Lear Electrical Systems De Mexico, is identified as the HARNESS ASM-CHAS WRG. Vehicles built after January 31, 2025, feature a redesigned harness and are not impacted, nor are non-EV Blazer models.
Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or reference GM’s recall number N252503010 for more information. For additional details, visit the NHTSA website.
Next Steps for Owners
GM will notify owners via letters mailed on August 11, 2025, outlining the steps to schedule repairs. In the interim, drivers should remain vigilant for any “service parking brake” warnings and contact their dealer promptly if issues arise. This recall underscores GM’s commitment to addressing vehicle safety concerns swiftly to protect drivers and passengers.
