Greenlane Opens I-15 EV Charging Hub

Greenlane’s new charging hub in Colton marks a pivotal development in the transition to zero-emission freight transportation. Situated at the intersection of Interstates 215 and 10, this strategic location serves as a crucial refueling point for electric trucks traveling along the I-15 corridor. The facility’s rapid construction, completed in just eight months, demonstrates the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable infrastructure.

The Colton hub is equipped with state-of-the-art charging technology, including 41 OEM-agnostic chargers. These consist of 12 pull-through lanes with 400 kW dual-port chargers for large Class 8 electric trucks and 29 bobtail lanes with 180 kW chargers. The site is designed for future expansion, with precast cable trenching to accommodate megawatt charging as demand increases. Beyond charging capabilities, the hub prioritizes driver comfort with a spacious lounge, food and beverage options, restrooms, free Wi-Fi, and 24/7 customer support. Security measures such as on-site attendants, cameras, and gated access ensure a safe environment for drivers and their vehicles.

As Greenlane’s first commercial fleet customer, Nevoya will begin operating its electric trucks from the Colton site in early May 2025. This partnership represents a significant step towards scaling electric trucking operations. Nevoya plans to utilize up to 100 electric trucks, leveraging Greenlane’s charging network to optimize their logistics. Sami Khan, co-founder and CEO of Nevoya, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are honored to be the first to establish operations at the Colton site and excited to join forces with Greenlane to make switching to electric trucks scalable, cost-effective, and inevitable.”

Greenlane Opens I-15 EV Charging Hub

The official opening of the Colton hub was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by key figures from Greenlane, local government, and industry partners. Speakers included Greenlane CEO Patrick Macdonald-King, Colton Mayor Frank J. Navarro, South Coast Air Quality Management District Board representative Larry McCallon, Daimler Truck North America’s Rakesh Aneja, and Nevoya’s John Verdon. The event highlighted the collaborative effort behind the project and its potential impact on the region’s economy and environment.

Greenlane’s Colton hub is just the beginning of a larger vision to create a comprehensive EV charging network along the I-15 corridor. Future sites are planned in Long Beach, Barstow, and Baker, California, with locations spaced approximately every 60 to 90 miles to support long-haul electric trucking. This initiative aligns with growing efforts to reduce emissions in the transportation sector and supports the adoption of zero-emission vehicles. The project’s success was bolstered by a $15 million grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Carl Moyer Zero-Emission Infrastructure Program, underscoring the importance of public funding in accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation solutions.
