Defect Details

The issue stems from the charging port door outer panel, which may not have adequate retention due to insufficient engagement of the outer panel retention hooks. This component, identified as part number 695C0-KL000, is supplied by LS Automotive Technologies Co., Ltd., a Tier 1 supplier based in Korea. During operation, the charge door outer cover may appear loose, serving as a potential warning sign to owners.

Hyundai’s investigation revealed that the problem affects vehicles produced between December 14, 2022, and December 26, 2024, by Hyundai Motor Company in Korea for the U.S. market. The estimated percentage of vehicles with the defect is 1%. To date, Hyundai has recorded six unique reports of detachment in the U.S., with no associated crashes, injuries, fatalities, or fires.

Investigation Chronology

Hyundai Motor America’s North America Safety Office began monitoring the issue after receiving a report on a global investigation into similar conditions in foreign markets. The team searched its database for U.S. incidents and reviewed foreign investigations, focusing on failure mechanisms and market conditions. This led to filing a foreign recall notice to inform the agency of overseas campaigns.

By early September, the office completed its U.S. market analysis, determining that certain vehicles might exhibit the same defect. The North America Safety Decision Authority then decided to conduct the recall for potentially affected vehicles.

Remedy Program

The repair involves applying an adhesive to enhance the retention of the charging port door outer panel, differing from the original component by improving its secure attachment. This remedy is available at no cost, even for vehicles outside the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Owners are advised not to drive or to park outside as consumer advisories, though no such mandates are specified.

Production changes addressed the issue with a new adhesive application starting as a running change on October 10, 2024. Hyundai uses its general reimbursement plan on file for any prior remedies obtained by owners.

Recall Schedule

Dealers and owners will be notified electronically and via certified mail on specified dates. Vehicle Identification Numbers became searchable on NHTSA.gov starting September 13, 2025. The recall is phased, with no interim notifications planned.

This recall, identified as NHTSA number 25V606 and Hyundai number 282, underscores the manufacturer’s commitment to safety. Owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 for assistance.
