MG Launches Seven-Seat MGS9 Plug-In Hybrid SUV

MG enters the seven-seat SUV market with the MGS9 PHEV, offering 62 miles of electric range, over 1,000 liters of cargo space, and a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

MG has entered the seven-seat SUV segment with the MGS9 PHEV. The large SUV pairs a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine with a 24.7 kWh battery. It delivers up to 62 miles of electric-only range. UK pricing starts at £34,205 (approximately $44,200 USD at current exchange rates).

Highlights

  • First seven-seat MG: The MGS9 PHEV is MG’s first three-row SUV, targeting families and lifestyle buyers in the large SUV market.
  • 62-mile electric range: A 24.7 kWh battery provides enough EV-only driving for most daily commutes and errands.
  • 1,000+ liters of cargo space: With the third row folded, the MGS9 offers over 1,000 liters of luggage capacity. All seven seats up still leaves 332 liters.
  • Euro NCAP five-star rating: The SUV earned the top safety score, supported by high-strength steel construction and up to 16 ADAS features.

Powertrain and Electric Range

The MGS9 PHEV uses the same plug-in hybrid platform found in the MG HS. A 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine works alongside a 24.7 kWh battery pack. Together, they produce an electric-only range of up to 62 miles under WLTP testing. That figure remains subject to final confirmation from MG.

For most owners, the electric range should cover typical daily driving. The petrol engine then extends capability for longer trips without range anxiety.

Interior and Cargo Flexibility

The MGS9 is both longer and taller than the MG HS. Its three-row layout seats up to seven occupants. With the third row folded flat, cargo space exceeds 1,000 liters. Even with all seats in use, 332 liters of boot space remains available.

Standard equipment includes leather-style upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and tri-zone climate control. The front seats are heated, ventilated, and offer a massage function.

Safety and ADAS

Euro NCAP awarded the MGS9 PHEV its top five-star safety rating. The structure uses extensive high-strength steel. MG also equips the SUV with up to 16 advanced driver-assistance technologies as standard.

Pricing and Availability

UK on-the-road pricing ranges from £34,205 to £36,945 (approximately $44,200 to $47,700 USD). The MGS9 PHEV is available to order now. Full specification details will follow later this month as deliveries begin at MG showrooms across the UK.

David Allison, MG UK’s Director of Product and Planning, said: “The launch of the MGS9 PHEV represents a significant milestone for MG, marking our entry into the 7-seat SUV segment and further strengthening our position in the large SUV market.”

“As a vehicle that is both longer and taller than the MG HS, the all-new MGS9 PHEV delivers enhanced presence and versatility, offering the flexibility of a third row to meet the evolving needs of modern families and lifestyle-driven customers,” Allison added.

MG currently operates in 34 European countries with approximately 1,300 dealer partners. The brand has sold over one million vehicles in Europe since 2011. All models carry a seven-year/150,000 km warranty. More information is available at mg.co.uk.
