Mullen Automotive Partners with Phenix to Develop Lightweight Body for Class 3 Electric Vehicle

Mullen Automotive announces its collaboration with Phenix Truck Bodies & Van Equipment to design a lightweight body for Class 3 EV, offering a sustainable alternative to ICE vehicles.

What’s Happening

Mullen Automotive, Inc., an up-and-coming player in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, has declared a partnership with Phenix Truck Bodies & Van Equipment. This collaboration aims to develop a distinct, lightweight truck body for Mullen’s Class 3 EV, signifying a promising alternative to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The Class 3 vehicle, once the upfit is completed, will be provided to Phenix commercial fleet clients for evaluation and pilot schemes.

Why It Matters

Southern California-based Phenix Truck Bodies & Van Equipment has a commendable history of 45 years as one of the state’s largest work truck, van equipment, and specialty truck body manufacturers. Their long-standing clientele includes some of the most discerning customers, such as Southern California Edison, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, among others. As a certified Minority Business Enterprise by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Phenix’s collaboration with Mullen underscores the electric vehicle industry’s continuous effort to evolve towards sustainability.

Key Points

The Mullen THREE features commendable maneuverability, credited to its tight turning diameter of 38 feet and excellent visibility. This adaptable chassis accommodates bodies up to 14 feet in length and can handle a payload exceeding 5,800 lbs. These qualities mark the Mullen THREE as a formidable contender in the Class 3 EV market.

John Schwegman, Mullen Automotive’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed his excitement regarding the Class 3 product’s forthcoming availability. He eagerly anticipates fleet customers experiencing the utility of an all-electric truck in their vehicle fleets. David Michery, CEO and Chairman of Mullen Automotive, shared this optimism, emphasizing that adding their commercial EVs to Phenix’s large fleet business signified a significant advancement for their commercial operations.

Bottom Line

Nationwide pre-production units of the Mullen THREE are now accessible for customer demonstrations and test drives. Fleets, municipalities, and small businesses are all welcome to request a demo of Mullen’s commercial vehicles. The Mullen THREE is set to be manufactured at Mullen’s facility in Tunica, Mississippi, with deliveries expected to start in August and September 2023. This announcement demonstrates Mullen Automotive’s unwavering commitment to sustainable mobility and the promotion of electric vehicles within the commercial sector.
