Since its European debut in September 2022, Nissan‘s e-POWER technology has marked a significant milestone with over 100,000 vehicles sold. This innovative technology, introduced in both the Qashqai and X-Trail models, has been largely successful due to its quietness and effortless driving experience, attributed to the wheels being entirely driven by an electric motor.
To date, sales figures show 65,367 Qashqais and 34,663 X-Trails equipped with e-POWER have been sold across Europe. The UK market alone accounts for more than 20% of these sales, with 21,026 e-POWER models finding their way to customers.
The e-POWER system is unique in that it combines an advanced, efficient petrol engine used solely for generating electricity with an electric motor that drives the wheels. This configuration ensures a drive experience that is smooth, quiet, and akin to a full electric vehicle. The petrol engine charges the on-board battery, which in turn powers the electric motor.
This system dynamically adapts to driving conditions. For instance, when road noise increases, the engine activates to charge the battery, optimizing efficiency and reducing engine operation under quieter conditions.
Arnaud Charpentier, Region Vice President of Nissan AMIEO, expressed pride in the recognition of e-POWER’s advantages by customers, citing it as a “testament to Nissan’s innovative spirit”. David Moss, Senior Vice President of Nissan’s AMIEO region, highlighted e-POWER as a key component of Nissan’s electrification strategy, offering an ideal option for those transitioning towards electric vehicles.
Nissan’s e-POWER technology is also expanding globally, reaching markets in Australia, New Zealand, and Morocco. To commemorate this sales achievement, Nissan is showcasing its technology through an inventive 3D projection on the Qashqai and X-Trail models. This projection maps the dynamic energy flow onto the vehicle exteriors, offering a unique insight into the workings of e-POWER.
The Qashqai, now in its third generation, and the X-Trail, a family-oriented SUV, embody Nissan’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. Both models are designed and developed in the UK and Japan respectively, reflecting Nissan’s global reach.
Underpinning these achievements is Nissan AMIEO’s focus on sustainability, with the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 as part of its Ambition 2030 strategy. This strategy is integral to Nissan’s mission to create a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive world, reinforcing its position as a leader in the global automotive sector.
