Polestar Automotive USA, Inc. has announced a recall for certain 2021-2025 Polestar 2 vehicles due to a rearview camera issue. The problem may cause the rearview camera image not to display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, which reduces the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle and increases the risk of a crash. The recall affects approximately 27,816 vehicles.
Key Highlights
- Recall Reason: Rearview camera image may not display when in reverse.
- Affected Vehicles: 2021-2025 Polestar 2 models.
- Number of Vehicles: Approximately 27,816.
- Safety Risk: Reduced visibility increases crash risk.
- Remedy: Free software update at dealers.
- Owner Notification: Letters to be mailed on June 19, 2025.
- Contact Information: Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504 (recall number RP1056).
The issue arises from a synchronization error between the Parking Assist Camera (PAC) and the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU), along with a flaw in the IHU’s video receiving hardware. When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, drivers may see a “Camera is temporarily unavailable” message instead of the rearview image.
Polestar identified the problem after receiving customer complaints and conducting technical reviews. This prompted the company to launch a voluntary safety recall. This action updates a previous recall (24V-477), meaning vehicles repaired under that recall will require the new fix.
Dealers will provide a free software update to resolve the issue. The update ensures a constant high-speed signal between the PAC and IHU and includes a reset function for the IHU hardware if a synchronization error occurs.
Owners will receive notification letters starting June 19, 2025. For immediate assistance, they can call Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504, using recall number RP1056. Alternatively, owners may reach the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
Polestar strongly encourages owners to schedule the software update promptly to ensure road safety.
