An Innovative Approach to Urban Infrastructure

The Rheinmetall curb charger impressed the Red Dot jury with its intelligent use of existing city infrastructure and high technical availability. This design provides a space-saving alternative to conventional charging points, effectively addressing the challenge of limited space in both public and private areas. Its modular design allows for the fast, flexible, and cost-efficient installation of charging points on a scalable basis.

These unique features have generated considerable interest from cities, municipalities, and charging point operators since last year. The product’s viability was confirmed after a highly successful one-year field study in Cologne, leading to its recent launch into regular operation and the beginning of serial production.

International Recognition and Future Outlook

The curb charger stood out among submissions from over 60 countries, earning praise from a distinguished jury of 43 experts. This panel, composed of designers, professors, and journalists from 21 different nations, certified the product’s outstanding design quality on an international level.

The official award ceremony will be held on July 8, 2025, at the Aalto-Theatre in Essen. A celebration will follow at the Red Dot Design Museum, located at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zeche Zollverein. This award marks a significant milestone for Rheinmetall as it moves forward with the production of this innovative charging solution. For more information, visit the Rheinmetall website.
