Rivian Automotive has issued a voluntary safety recall affecting nearly 20,000 R1T pickup trucks and R1S SUVs from the 2022-2025 model years. The recall addresses a rear suspension toe link joint that may have been improperly reassembled during service procedures conducted before March 10, 2025.
Highlights
- 19,641 vehicles affected: 12,610 R1T trucks and 7,031 R1S SUVs that received specific suspension service
- Safety risk: Toe link joint separation while driving could result in a crash without warning
- Remedy: Free replacement of rear toe link bolts using updated service procedure
- Owner notifications: Expected to be mailed by February 24, 2026
Defect Details and Safety Risk
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration assigned recall number 26V003 to this campaign, while Rivian internally designates it as FSAM-1794. The defect stems from an older service procedure used when technicians separated and reassembled the rear suspension toe link joint during repairs.
Vehicles serviced between April 1, 2022 and March 10, 2025 may have toe link joints that were not reassembled to design specifications. Rivian estimates approximately 1% of the recalled population may actually have the defect, as the company identified affected vehicles through service records.
The affected component is a bolt (part number SC00002057-A) specified as M14X2_0X80 HX FL PIL CL10_9. If improperly installed, vehicle motion may eventually cause the toe link joint to separate while driving, increasing crash risk without prior warning.
Investigation Timeline
Rivian completed an internal investigation in March 2025 to determine the root cause of a small number of reported toe link joint failures. The company subsequently revised its service procedures and technician training protocols.
Following implementation of the updated service procedure, no repair-related toe link failures have been reported to Rivian. However, on December 15, 2025, NHTSA notified the automaker of two recent customer complaints involving failures associated with repairs performed before the procedural update.
Rivian decided to conduct the voluntary recall on December 26, 2025. As of the filing date, the company reports awareness of one crash with alleged minor injuries related to this issue.
Remedy and Owner Actions
Rivian has issued consumer advisories recommending owners do not drive affected vehicles and park them outside. The company will replace any potentially affected rear toe link bolts using its updated service procedure at no charge to owners.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by February 24, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning the same date.
