Volkswagen is integrating ChatGPT into its voice assistant, enhancing the driving experience with AI-powered conversational capabilities. Starting September 6, 2024, the feature will debut in select 2025 Jetta, Jetta GLI, and ID.4 models, with broader availability across various models by the end of the year. Powered by Cerence Chat Pro, the enhanced voice assistant, IDA, allows users to engage in natural conversations and control vehicle functions hands-free.
Key Highlights:
- ChatGPT integration in 2025 Volkswagen vehicles starting with the Jetta, Jetta GLI, and ID.4.
- Voice assistant activation via the phrases “Hello IDA” or “Hello Volkswagen” or the steering wheel button.
- Expanded capabilities including navigation, infotainment, climate control, and answering general knowledge questions.
- Generative AI via Cerence Chat Pro for natural, human-like conversations and more personalized assistance.
- Plus Speech with AI subscription available for most models, with 1 to 3 years included, depending on the vehicle.
- Data protection with all session data deleted immediately for enhanced privacy.
The integration of ChatGPT brings a more immersive experience to Volkswagen customers. Cerence Chat Pro allows the IDA voice assistant to process queries, offering hands-free support for everything from adjusting the temperature to recommending restaurants. This AI-powered assistant can handle complex queries, transforming the driving experience into a seamless journey.
“Hi IDA, I’m chilly” activates the heating system, reflecting how natural language understanding elevates voice control beyond basic commands. As a safeguard, ChatGPT does not access vehicle data, ensuring all personal information is protected.
Volkswagen continues to advance connected mobility, offering customers AI-driven features that make driving more intuitive and enjoyable.
