Volkswagen Launches ID. UNYX in China

Volkswagen expands its ID. family in China with the unveiling of the ID. UNYX, a progressive E-SUV coupé. This model features a smart human-machine interface with a customizable 3D avatar and offers a range of over 600 kilometers, aiming to meet the lifestyle needs of young Chinese customers.

Volkswagen Launches ID. UNYX in China

Volkswagen’s ‘In China, for China’ strategy is reflected in its latest product offering, the ID. UNYX, designed to cater specifically to Chinese customers. This E-SUV coupé, with its progressive design and smart human-machine interface (HMI), including a personalizable 3D avatar, aims to appeal to the young, tech-savvy market in China’s metropolises.

Stefan Mecha, CEO Volkswagen Brand China, stated, “With the new ID. UNYX, we are expanding the spectrum of our electric ID. models in China with an avant-garde product. We are combining a confident, progressive design with a sustainable electric drive and state-of-the-art user experience. All of this perfectly matches the pulse of the times. Intelligently networked electric models such as the new ID. UNYX are the key to attracting young, lifestyle-oriented target groups and retaining existing customers for the Volkswagen brand.”

Expansion Plans: By 2026, Volkswagen plans to introduce four more models under the ID. UNYX sub-brand. These will include additional SUVs and sedans, forming a central part of Volkswagen’s master plan for China. This plan aims to launch a total of 34 new models by 2030, bolstering Volkswagen’s presence as a leading international brand in the Chinese market.

Volkswagen’s joint ventures, SAIC Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen, alongside the new Volkswagen Smart E-Mobility Hub, will see the introduction of 16 new electric ID. models, 12 new combustion engine models, and six plug-in hybrid models, expanding Volkswagen’s product range in China.

Innovation and Production: The ID. UNYX was developed at Volkswagen’s new innovation and development center in Hefei, focusing on the latest generation of smart electric vehicles for the Chinese market. This advanced facility also manufactures the ID. UNYX, ensuring the highest standards in electric vehicle production.

Technological Features: The ID. UNYX’s innovative HMI includes an interactive, AI-based 3D avatar whose appearance can be customized via an app and synchronized with the vehicle’s HMI. The avatar’s voice can be adapted based on a human voice, providing a unique interactive experience.

Performance: The ID. UNYX offers impressive performance, with the entry-level version powered by a 210 kW (286 PS) electric motor and a 77 kWh battery, achieving a range of up to 621 km (CLTC standard). An all-wheel-drive version with two electric motors and an output of 250 kW (340 PS) will also be available.

The ID. UNYX’s progressive design and advanced features are set to make it a key player in Volkswagen‘s strategy to attract young, lifestyle-oriented customers in China.
