πŸ”₯ Jeep Plug-In Hybrids Recalled for Battery Fire Risk

Chrysler recalls over 320,000 Jeep 4xe plug-in hybrids for high-voltage battery defects that may cause fires. Owners are urged to park outside and avoid charging until repairs are completed.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling more than 320,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid vehicles due to a risk of high-voltage battery fires that may occur while parked or driving.

Highlights

  • Models affected: 2020–2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
  • Total vehicles: 320,065 units; estimated 5% may have the defect
  • Supplier: Samsung SDI America Inc.
  • Defect: Internal battery cell separator damage may lead to overheating and fire
  • Interim guidance: Park vehicles outdoors, away from structures, and do not charge

Defect and Safety Risk

According to Chrysler’s filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA Campaign No. 25V741 / Recall No. 68C), some high-voltage battery packs may contain cells with separator damage. This condition, combined with other complex cell interactions, can cause thermal events and vehicle fires. No prior warning signs are expected.

The recall follows earlier Jeep plug-in hybrid recalls (24V720 and 23V787) for similar issues. Chrysler determined that previous remedies were ineffective at detecting abnormalities in the battery packs.

To date, Chrysler has reported:

  • 9 fires in vehicles that received the previous recall remedy
  • 10 fires in batteries produced outside the prior recall scope
  • 1 injury and no crashes linked to this defect

Remedy and Owner Guidance

A new remedy is under development, and owners will receive interim letters beginning December 2, 2025, advising them not to recharge and to park vehicles away from buildings or other vehicles. Dealers will be notified beginning November 6, 2025. Once finalized, the remedy will replace affected battery components.

Owners can contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 or check VIN status on NHTSA.gov starting November 6, 2025.
