The Mercedes-AMG ONE has once again proven its dominance on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, shattering its own lap record for production vehicles. Driven by Mercedes-AMG brand ambassador and DTM driver Maro Engel, the hypercar achieved an astounding lap time of 6:29.090 minutes, beating its previous record by over five seconds. This feat makes the AMG ONE the first road car to break the 6:30-minute barrier on the legendary track, solidifying its position as the undisputed leader in the super-sports car class.

Key Highlights:

  • New Lap Record: 6:29.090 minutes on the 12.944-mile (20.832-kilometer) Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
  • First Road Car Under 6:30: The AMG ONE is the first production vehicle to achieve this milestone.
  • Formula 1™ Technology: The hypercar utilizes advanced Formula 1™-derived hybrid technology.
  • Optimal Conditions: The record lap was achieved with dry track conditions and temperatures of 59 degrees Fahrenheit (air) and 68 degrees Fahrenheit (asphalt).
  • Strategic Energy Management: Maro Engel expertly utilized the AMG ONE’s Energy Flow Control (EFC) system and “lift and coast” techniques to maximize electric energy.

This record-breaking achievement is a testament to the relentless pursuit of performance by the Mercedes-AMG team. Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH, expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishment, stating, “We’ve held the record for road vehicles for almost two years now. But at AMG, we always want to push the boundaries of what is possible to the maximum or even push them a little further. That’s why we have once again demonstrated what is possible with the unique AMG ONE. The entire team has been rewarded for its efforts and commitment. I’m proud of this determined team effort and of this fantastic record time. Once again, we’ve impressively demonstrated the spirit and expertise of AMG.”

Maro Engel echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the team’s dedication and the AMG ONE’s exceptional capabilities. He stated, “Two years ago, the conditions were not ideal, and some sections of the track were still a little damp. We knew we could do more, and we wanted to show that. Today we were able to demonstrate the maximum potential of the AMG ONE. Many thanks to the whole team from Affalterbach for the trust they’ve placed in me. It was a great pleasure and honor to be able to drive this record lap with such a unique car.”

The Mercedes-AMG ONE is a technological marvel, bringing Formula 1™ hybrid drive technology to the road. Its powertrain consists of a 1.6-liter V6 hybrid gasoline engine and four electric motors, generating a total output of 1,049 hp (782 kW). This allows the hypercar to achieve a top speed of 218 mph (352 km/h). In addition to its powerful hybrid system, the AMG ONE boasts advanced features like a carbon fiber monocoque, active aerodynamics, and a pushrod chassis.

For the record attempt, the AMG ONE was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tires, specifically developed for the car, and utilized its “Race Plus” drive program. This program activates maximum aerodynamics, lowers the vehicle’s ride height, and unleashes the full power of the hybrid drive system. The Drag Reduction System (DRS) was also strategically employed to maximize speed on the straights while maintaining downforce in the corners.

The AMG ONE’s Formula 1™-derived E PERFORMANCE hybrid drive system is a masterpiece of engineering. Developed in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, it features a highly integrated and intelligently networked unit. The system includes an electric turbocharger, which significantly improves response and acceleration, and an MGU-K (Motor Generator Unit Kinetic) that provides an additional 161 hp (120 kW).

The hypercar’s high-performance lithium-ion battery, also derived from Formula 1™ technology, boasts a capacity of 8.4 kWh, enabling a purely electric range of 11.2 miles (18.1 kilometers). The battery features innovative direct cooling, ensuring optimal temperature and performance.

The Mercedes-AMG ONE’s record-breaking lap on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife is a testament to its cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, and the dedication of the Mercedes-AMG team. This achievement solidifies the AMG ONE’s position as a true hypercar and a pioneer in bringing Formula 1™ technology to the road.
