Ariel Motor Company has introduced the E-Nomad concept, a fully-electric iteration of its renowned sportscar. With a power output of 210kW (281bhp) and a weight of just 896kg, the E-Nomad can achieve a 0-60mph time of 3.4 seconds. This concept combines high-performance capabilities with off-road prowess, offering a range of up to 150 miles. The E-Nomad features a newly-developed 450V 41kWh battery system and innovative flax fibre bio-composite body panels, which are both lighter and more environmentally friendly than traditional materials.
Key Highlights:
- 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds: Matches the acceleration of its internal combustion engine counterpart.
- Lightweight Construction: Weighs only 896kg, featuring flax fibre bio-composite body panels that are 9% lighter than carbon fibre and save 73% CO2.
- 450V 41kWh Battery: Developed by Rockfort Engineering, this battery offers high energy density and supports both AC and DC fast charging.
- Off-Road Capabilities: Designed for extreme performance both on and off-road, staying true to Ariel’s “SERIOUS FUN” ethos.
- Advanced Cooling and Heating: Integrated systems maintain optimal battery temperature, enhancing performance and longevity.
- Regenerative Braking: Includes regenerative braking for one-pedal driving and improved energy efficiency.
Ariel’s Director, Simon Saunders, commented, “While the E-Nomad is a concept, it does show production intent for the vehicle and hints at just a small part of Ariel’s future. Once it has been through our usual, gruelling testing regime, we could opt to add E-Nomad alongside its ICE Nomad 2 sibling, so we’ll take great interest in customer feedback on the concept car.”
The E-Nomad’s bodywork is crafted from natural flax fibres, providing both structural strength and environmental benefits. The innovative material offers a 30% reduction in drag, maximizing both range and performance. This bodywork, along with Ariel’s newly developed Power Delivery Management (PDM) system, represents a significant step forward in sustainable vehicle design.
The E-Nomad concept will debut at the Cenex Expo 2024 on September 4 at UTAC Millbrook. Ariel will use this event to gauge consumer interest and inform future production plans. Although not for sale yet, the E-Nomad signals a potential shift in Ariel’s lineup toward electrification and sustainability.
By focusing on both on-road performance and off-road capabilities, the E-Nomad concept positions Ariel as a leader in high-performance electric vehicles, balancing innovation with the brand’s commitment to extreme driving experiences.
