Lucid USA, Inc. is recalling 27,185 model year 2022–2026 Air sedans after determining that the software governing low-voltage exterior lighting circuits may allow those circuits to remain energized at excess amperage and overheat. The Part 573 safety recall report filed under NHTSA recall number 26V540 estimates that 100 percent of the affected population carries the defect. Lucid has issued a park-outside consumer advisory directing owners to keep affected vehicles away from structures until the remedy software is installed. The advisory covers parking only — owners are not instructed to stop driving the vehicles.
Highlights
- 27,185 Lucid Air vehicles built between October 11, 2021 and July 27, 2026 are covered, with a 100 percent estimated defect rate.
- Software version 2.10.0, released over the air in July 2026, lowers the eFuse amperage threshold and disables retry logic that could re-energize a faulted circuit within the same key cycle.
- 20,719 vehicles had already installed the remedy software when the filing was prepared; 6,466 had not.
- Remedy owner notification is scheduled for October 16, 2026 as a phased recall, with no dealer notification required.
What the eFuse Software Failed to Do
The defect sits in the electrical overcurrent protection software that manages an eFuse on certain low-voltage exterior lighting circuits. Lucid determined the logic could permit continued circuit energization at an amperage level above the intended protection point, defeating the purpose of the fuse.
Insufficient overcurrent protection can lead to circuit overheating, which can produce smoke or fire and increase the risk of injury. Affected exterior lighting may also malfunction, raising crash risk. In some cases, Lucid states, drivers may notice smoke, a burning odor, or warning telltales indicating an exterior lighting fault. Any software version below 2.10.0 is identified as the affected component.
Why Are Owners Told to Park Outside?
Because the overheating scenario carries fire risk, Lucid advises owners to park outside and away from structures until the update is applied — a precautionary measure the filing frames as covering limited circumstances rather than an expected failure. All over-the-air updates are provided at no cost.
Three Fires and a Stop Lamp Smoke Pattern
The chronology traces back to June 2023, when Lucid received a report of a fire in the front left corner of a Lucid-owned MY 2023 Air. A third-party expert established no definitive root cause but could not rule out the front combination lamp.
Lucid’s Product Safety Working Group opened a safety review in May 2026 after a customer reported a fire in the left front corner of a MY 2024 Air. The subsequent data review identified three fire events involving front lighting across three years; the third, in March 2025, involved a MY 2022 Air and likely originated in the front left light blade controller.
Investigators separately identified four incidents between October 2025 and April 2026 in which customers reported smoke, traced to overheating of the center high mounted stop lamp circuit. Lucid found 33 additional warranty reports involving CHMSL wire harness damage that could relate to the same condition. The investigation identified gaps in the overcurrent protection strategy for certain low-voltage exterior lighting circuits. On August 13, 2026, Lucid’s Product Safety Executive Council determined a safety-related defect existed and designated version 2.10.0 as the remedy.
Software Version 2.10.0 as the Remedy
Lucid released the remedy as an over-the-air software update in July 2026, before the defect determination was finalized. The version revises the electrical protection strategy by lowering applicable protection thresholds and preventing a faulted circuit from retrying within the same key cycle, building on protections introduced in earlier releases. Lucid evaluated the lowered threshold after release and determined it provides adequate protection.
As of July 27, 2026, vehicles in Lucid’s possession are updated to 2.10.0 or later at the factory or during pre-delivery inspection, and inventory vehicles will be updated before customer delivery.
Owner Notification and Reimbursement
Owners who have not installed version 2.10.0 or later will be notified by first-class mail with instructions to update, or to contact Lucid Customer Care or a Lucid Service Center for assistance. There is no cost for the service.
Lucid will reimburse owners for costs reasonably incurred to obtain a remedy, covering the period from initial vehicle delivery through 10 days after the owner notification letter is mailed. Owners with pre-notification reimbursement claims may contact Lucid Customer Care at 1-888-995-8243. Lucid’s internal recall number is SR-26-06-0.
