Audi will introduce the A2 e-tron in fall 2026 as a new all-electric model family in the compact class. The vehicle will be manufactured at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant in Germany. The nameplate revives the original A2, which debuted over 25 years ago as an efficiency-focused urban vehicle.
Highlights
- New compact EV family: The A2 e-tron creates an entry point into Audi’s electric lineup, targeting urban buyers who prioritize efficiency and connectivity.
- Ingolstadt production: The model adds another fully electric product line to Audi’s German manufacturing footprint.
- Portfolio strategy: The A2 e-tron and the full-size Q9 anchor Audi’s 2026 lineup at opposite ends of the segment spectrum.
- World premiere set for fall 2026: Audi has released a design sketch revealing the vehicle’s silhouette ahead of the full reveal.
Targeting the Compact EV Market
Audi is positioning the A2 e-tron for a growing compact EV market, particularly in large European cities. The company said the model targets an international customer base that values everyday urban usability, sustainability, high efficiency, and digital connectivity.
“We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever,” said CEO Gernot Döllner.
German Manufacturing Commitment
Production at Ingolstadt reinforces Audi’s broader strategy of transforming its German and European plants for EV production. Döllner described the A2 e-tron as important for both the brand and its domestic operations.
“The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand and also for our German home. With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany’,” he said.
Continuing a Rapid Model Offensive
Audi launched more than 20 new models across 2024 and 2025. The automaker says it now holds the youngest portfolio among its competitors, spanning from the compact electric segment to the full-size class. In 2026, the company is focusing on two strategic bookends: the full-size Audi Q9 and the compact A2 e-tron.
A design sketch has been released showing the A2 e-tron’s silhouette. Further details are expected ahead of the fall world premiere.
