Schroders Capital has teamed up with Be.EV, a prominent UK electric vehicle (EV) charging network, to install over 200 ultra-rapid EV charging bays across 22 retail and leisure properties managed by Schroders Capital throughout the UK. This £20 million investment by Be.EV aims to improve key retail destinations while supporting the nation’s shift toward sustainable energy. The initiative involves deploying cutting-edge Kempower chargers, which can provide up to 325 miles of range in just 20 minutes, at sites featuring major retailers like Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Lidl, Costa Coffee, KFC, McDonald’s, Nando’s, Pizza Express, Starbucks, Marks & Spencer, and IKEA.

This collaboration is set to benefit retailers significantly. A survey revealed that 57% of drivers using public chargers shop or visit cafes during charging sessions. The charging hubs, typically equipped with six to 12 bays, will operate under a 20-year lease agreement with index-linked rents, underscoring a long-term commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure.
Be.EV, majority-owned by Octopus Energy Generation’s Sky Fund with £110 million in backing, is a reliable leader in the EV charging sector. This deal strengthens its nationwide presence and helps landlords future-proof their properties. Legal agreements for the first three sites are complete, with more underway, aligning with Schroders Capital’s net zero ambitions and the UK’s EV revolution.
