BorgWarner, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, has entered into a contract with a major North American automaker to supply its advanced 400V SW130 (S-wind) eMotor. This cutting-edge technology will be utilized in the automaker’s hybrid full-sized trucks and SUVs, with production slated to commence in the second quarter of 2028.
Key Highlights:
- BorgWarner to supply 400V SW130 (S-wind) eMotor to a major North American OEM.
- eMotor to be used in hybrid full-sized trucks and SUVs.
- Production expected to begin in Q2 2028.
- S-wind technology offers enhanced efficiency and compact design.
- Contract expands BorgWarner’s global presence.
- Technology reduces costs and improves scalability.
The contract marks a significant milestone for BorgWarner, reinforcing its role as a global leader in eMotor technology. The S-wind eMotor, recognized with the prestigious PACE award, is celebrated for its high-voltage, high-volume capabilities, making it a perfect fit for hybrid vehicles.
Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, shared his excitement about the collaboration. He noted that BorgWarner has worked closely with the automaker, offering valuable feedback to tailor the S-wind eMotor to specific needs. This agreement showcases the engineering team’s expertise across design, manufacturing, and implementation.
The S-wind technology stands out in the industry. Unlike traditional hairpin motors, it uses a continuous, rectangular winding design. This enables peak performance and enhanced power efficiency in a compact package. It also reduces welding points by more than 90%, boosting scalability and cutting costs. The design improves material use, supporting a greener manufacturing process.
Tailored for hybrid applications, the SW130 eMotor features a 130mm stator diameter and a 65mm stack length. This setup optimizes torque while enhancing noise and vibration control.
With over 130 years in the automotive field, BorgWarner continues to lead in mobility innovation. This contract strengthens its foothold in the hybrid vehicle market, meeting the industry’s growing demands with advanced technology.
