The CUPRA Formentor’s success involves more than 4,000 employees, with a new car rolling off the line every 69 seconds. The production process employs advanced technologies, such as deep learning and digitalized systems, to ensure the highest quality. One notable innovation is the Prüfer Digital system, an automatic station using artificial vision to control various parts of the vehicle with over 60 simultaneous checkpoints.
Additionally, the Smart Plug system is used for the assembly of more than 90 electronic control units, enabling remote production and the activation of control units for up to 45 cars at a time. The most significant innovation is the new KTL Oven, the first 100% electric transversal oven in the Volkswagen Group, which reduces energy consumption by up to 25% and occupies 42% less space than a conventional oven.
The Martorell facility is the third largest Volkswagen Group plant in Europe by volume. Markus Haupt, CUPRA’s Vice-President for Production and Logistics, states, “We’re working to transform and enhance the factory, integrating the most advanced technologies in its manufacturing and structural processes.” The 3-billion-euro investment aims to make production more agile, sustainable, and profitable as the plant transitions towards electrification.
