CUPRA Raval Launches as Affordable MEB+ Electric Hatchback

CUPRA unveils the Raval, a compact MEB+ electric hatchback starting at £23,785, offering up to 280 miles of range and a 225 PS performance variant.

CUPRA has unveiled the Raval, a compact electric hatchback built on Volkswagen Group’s new MEB+ platform. The front-wheel-drive model arrives in the UK this summer with prices starting at £23,785 (approximately $31,900 USD). It is the first of four planned MEB+ small EVs from the group, alongside the Volkswagen ID. Polo, ID. Cross, and Skoda Epiq.

Highlights

  • MEB+ platform debut: The Raval is the first production vehicle on Volkswagen Group’s cost-reduced MEB+ architecture, designed and produced at CUPRA’s Martorell facility in Barcelona.
  • Two battery options: A 37kWh LFP pack offers around 186 miles of range, while a 52kWh NMC battery extends that to approximately 280 miles (WLTP estimates).
  • Four trim levels: Origin, V1, V2, and VZ, with power outputs spanning 115 PS to 225 PS.
  • VZ performance variant: Features an electronic limited-slip differential, Dynamic Chassis Control, and a 0–62 mph time of approximately 7.0 seconds.

Powertrain and Battery Options

The Raval offers two battery configurations paired with front-mounted electric motors. The entry-level Origin trim uses the 37kWh LFP battery producing 115 PS. The V1 and V2 trims are available with either the 37kWh pack at 135 PS or the larger 52kWh NMC battery at 210 PS.

The 52kWh battery supports DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 23 minutes. CUPRA rates peak charging power at 105 kW for the larger pack and up to 88 kW for the 37kWh version.

Note: Range figures cited are WLTP manufacturer estimates and do not reflect EPA-certified ratings. No EPA testing has been announced for this model.

VZ Performance Trim

The range-topping VZ is available exclusively with the 52kWh battery, producing 225 PS. CUPRA claims a 0–62 mph time of approximately 7.0 seconds and a top speed of 108 mph. However, range drops to around 250 miles due to the higher power output.

Chassis modifications distinguish the VZ from lower trims. The suspension sits 15 mm lower than the standard MEB+ configuration, and the track is 10 mm wider. Reworked front suspension knuckles increase negative camber for higher lateral grip. An electronic limited-slip differential and DCC Sport adaptive dampers are standard.

Dimensions and Packaging

The Raval measures 4,046 mm in length, 1,784 mm in width, and 1,518 mm in height, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. Those dimensions place it in supermini territory, roughly comparable to a Volkswagen Polo. Despite its compact footprint, the boot measures 441 liters — larger than the bigger CUPRA Born. Models equipped with the 52kWh battery are approved for trailer towing up to 1,200 kg.

Interior and Technology

The cabin features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen running an Android-based operating system. CUPRA has fitted the steering wheel with physical buttons, including satellite controls for driving modes and regenerative braking. Dashboard-mounted projectors display animations on the front door cards, with graphics tied to the selected drive mode.

A Sennheiser Ambeo 12-speaker sound system with 475 watts of power is available. The VZ features CUP bucket seats with 3D Knit upholstery, a lightweight single-piece fabric designed for easier recycling.

Pricing and Competition

UK pricing starts at £23,785 (approximately $31,900 USD), with the VZ expected to reach around £37,000 (approximately $49,600 USD). CUPRA expects the base model to qualify for the UK’s £1,500 Band 2 Government Electric Car Grant.

The Raval enters a growing European affordable EV segment. Its most direct competitor is the Renault 5 E-Tech, which offers up to 252 miles of range. The VZ variant targets the Alpine A290 performance hatch. Deliveries are expected to begin in summer 2026.

Marcus Gossen, managing director of SEAT and CUPRA UK, said: “Raval is the pinnacle of all things CUPRA – advanced, forward thinking, dynamic. It pushes the boundaries in automotive and encourages drivers to form a real emotional connection to the drive itself. The combination of striking design, electrifying performance and unconventional features, reimagines what an urban EV can be for a new generation of drivers.”
