What’s Happening: Electrify America has announced a collaboration with Hyundai to provide two years of unlimited 30-minute complimentary charging sessions for first-time owners of the all-electric Hyundai IONIQ 6. The agreement will allow IONIQ 6 owners to access Electrify America’s rapidly expanding network of DC fast chargers, starting from the date of purchase. Furthermore, owners can use the Electrify America mobile app to locate and access charging stations while on the road.

Why It Matters: This partnership between Electrify America and Hyundai aims to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) driving experience and promote the adoption of EVs. By offering complimentary fast charging and convenient access to charging stations, the companies are addressing common concerns of potential EV owners, such as range anxiety and charging time.

Key Points:

  • The collaboration with Hyundai covers the Kona Electric, IONIQ 5, and the new IONIQ 6, providing access to charging speeds of up to 350kW for compatible vehicles.
  • The IONIQ 6 is equipped with an Ultrafast 800-Volt Multi-Charging system, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes. The vehicle boasts an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 361 miles and will go on sale in spring 2023.
  • The Electrify America mobile app offers a user-friendly interface for IONIQ 6 owners to locate chargers, initiate a charge, and track charging sessions.
  • Electrify America also offers an at-home charger called HomeStation, which delivers a 9.6 kW maximum charge speed and up to 33 miles of range per hour of charging for capable vehicles.

Bottom Line: Electrify America’s partnership with Hyundai marks an essential step in promoting EV adoption by providing IONIQ 6 owners with convenient, complimentary access to fast charging. The collaboration aims to build driver confidence in electric vehicles and expand the EV market by addressing concerns about charging infrastructure and driving range. With 800 charging stations and approximately 3,500 individual chargers, Electrify America continues to drive the EV revolution forward.
