DartSolar LLC has introduced an advanced solution for maximizing electric vehicle (EV) range through solar energy. The company’s 2,000-watt expanding solar roof rack is designed to add up to 40 miles of range per day to nearly any EV, alongside the capacity to power a small home. This cutting-edge approach demonstrates a significant leap in off-grid charging and vehicle power generation, reflecting DartSolar’s commitment to innovative, decentralized energy solutions.
Key Highlights
- 1,000-watt expanding solar rack already developed in 2024, enabling 10 to 20 miles of off-grid range per day
- Upcoming 2,000-watt version to generate 10kWh of daily power, enough for 40 miles of range or small home electricity
- Expandable, replaceable design utilizing 3D-printed parts and custom 1/8-inch thick solar panels
- Compatible with any power unit or solar charger, supporting off-grid charging even while driving
- Financing options starting at $80 per month, designed to offset typical charging expenses
The 2,000-watt expanding solar roof rack builds on DartSolar’s history of innovation, following the 2024 creation of the world’s first 1,000-watt expanding solar roof rack capable of charging an EV 10 to 20 miles per day, completely off-grid. Today, DartSolar is embarking on developing the world’s first 2,000-watt expanding solar roof rack. Prototype image appears below. This new system is crafted from 3D printed components, aluminum telescopic tubes, and custom 1/8-inch thick solar panels, allowing it to extend for full solar capture when parked and contract for efficient driving. The design is future-proof, with an anticipated upgrade path to 3,000-watts by 2027, thanks to the emergence of 30% efficiency perovskite solar cells.
In line with DartSolar’s open-source mindset, all 3D printable parts will be accessible to owners. Detailed blueprints and instructional videos will help customers maintain, replace, or enhance any module, ensuring long-term adaptability. This arrangement also supports compatibility with a wide range of vehicle types, from Teslas and other EVs to hybrids, vans, trucks, and RVs.
Additionally, users can pair the solar rack with their preferred power unit or rely on DartSolar’s compatible chargers for reliable off-grid energy. Those who already own a power unit can secure the DartSolar for as little as $1950 or via financing plans that may include zero interest. With payments around $80 per month, the monthly cost could potentially replace average home or public charging expenses.
