Formula E and the FIA have unveiled a groundbreaking racing innovation called “Pit Boost,” set to debut at the Jeddah E-Prix on February 14-15, 2025. This new feature provides a 10% energy increase (3.85kWh) via a 30-second, 600kW ultra-fast recharge in the pitlane. Designed to enhance race strategy and unpredictability, Pit Boost highlights advancements in EV charging technology, showcasing Formula E’s role in bridging the gap between racetrack innovation and real-world electric vehicle adoption.
Key Highlights of Pit Boost
- Strategic Innovation: Pit Boost introduces a new mid-race challenge, forcing teams to weigh the energy boost’s advantages against the risk of losing track position during a 34-second stationary pit stop.
- Mandatory Deployment: This feature is required in one race during double-header weekends, with deployment details provided to teams 21 days before the event.
- Independent Mechanism: Operating outside the existing Attack Mode rules, Pit Boost adds an additional layer of strategy for teams to manage.
- Charging Technology Leadership: Utilizing 600kW charging power, Pit Boost demonstrates Formula E’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of ultra-fast EV charging.
- Strict Protocols: Safety and fairness are ensured through controlled implementation, including a one-car-per-team rule and limited pit crew involvement.

Pit Boost is designed to revolutionize the race-day experience by incorporating strategic decision-making under high-pressure conditions.
