The expanded partnership between EVgo and Meijer will significantly increase the availability of fast-charging options at grocery stores in the Midwest. To date, EVgo has opened 24 public fast-charging stalls at six Meijer locations in Michigan and Ohio. The new phase of this partnership plans for up to 60 additional stations by the end of 2027, including 30 stations by 2026 and another 30 by 2027.
Dennis Kish, President of EVgo, emphasized the importance of convenient charging options: “Fast charging should be an effortless part of drivers’ daily routines, and nothing is more routine than a trip to the grocery store.” He added that the growing number of charging stalls reflects the shared commitment of EVgo and Meijer to enhancing the charging experience for EV drivers across the region.
Currently, Meijer provides EV charging at more than 35% of its store locations, which aligns with the retailer’s broader sustainability goals. In addition to EV charging, Meijer is committed to reducing its carbon footprint through energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives. The company recently announced that it had surpassed its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50%, achieving this milestone a year ahead of schedule.
Erik Petrovskis, Director of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability at Meijer, stated: “Access to electric vehicle charging is an essential pillar of our broader sustainability goals and we’re proud to partner with EVgo as part of our ongoing environmental stewardship efforts.” Petrovskis highlighted Meijer’s efforts to connect more customers with EV charging resources, contributing to the goal of minimizing shared emissions for a sustainable future.
This expansion is also part of EVgo’s larger mission to build a customer-centric national charging network, supported in part by a conditional commitment for a loan guarantee of up to $1.05 billion from the Department of Energy Loan Programs Office. If finalized, this funding will bolster EVgo’s ongoing efforts to enhance its network infrastructure.
