Ford Expands Plug & Charge to IONNA and Dealerships

Ford expanded Plug & Charge automated charging functionality to IONNA stations and initiated rollout across Ford Charge dealership network, adding thousands of compatible charging locations.

Ford Motor Company has expanded Plug & Charge functionality to IONNA charging stations and initiated rollout across its Ford Charge dealership network. The expansion increases automated charging access across North America’s largest integrated public charging network.

Highlights

  • IONNA Integration: Plug & Charge now active at 1,110 IONNA fast chargers with network targeting 30,000 charging bays by 2030
  • Dealership Network Deployment: Phased rollout began at 330+ Ford Charge dealer locations with 1,200+ fast chargers, completion targeted for early 2026
  • Network Scale: BlueOval Charge Network provides access to 21 charging networks including 25,000+ Tesla Superchargers, representing nearly 90% of public DC fast-chargers
  • Performance Data: Ford drivers using Plug & Charge achieved 99%+ charging success rate at Electrify America and compatible Tesla Superchargers

Network Expansion Details

The BlueOval Charge Network consolidates multiple charging providers into a single payment and access system through the Ford mobile application. The network eliminates requirements for multiple apps, login credentials, and separate payment methods across participating charging networks.

Ford added 5,000 Tesla Superchargers to the network during the expansion. The integration increased total Tesla Supercharger access to more than 25,000 stations for Ford electric vehicle owners.

Plug & Charge Functionality

Plug & Charge automates the charging process by eliminating manual payment steps. The system activates charging sessions and processes payments automatically when drivers connect their vehicles to compatible charging stations.

Current Plug & Charge Network Coverage:

  • Electrify America (available since 2020)
  • EVolve NY (available since 2020)
  • Tesla Superchargers (available since February 2024)
  • IONNA (newly activated)
  • Ford Charge (phased rollout in progress)

Over 34,000 charging stations in the BlueOval Charge Network will support Plug & Charge functionality by year-end.

Performance Metrics

Ford tracked charging session data across an eight-month period from March 1, 2025, to October 31, 2025, for U.S. and Canadian electric vehicle charging sessions. The data covered Electrify America and compatible Tesla Supercharger locations.

Plug & Charge users demonstrated a 99%+ success rate for DC fast charging activation. The metric measures completed charging sessions initiated through Plug & Charge functionality.

IONNA

IONNA Network Integration

IONNA operates 1,110 fast charging bays currently live or under construction. The charging network plans expansion to 30,000 bays by the end of 2030.

Ford electric vehicle owners access IONNA charging locations through BlueOval Charge Network accounts. Plug & Charge functionality scales with IONNA network expansion.

Ford Charge Dealership Rollout

The Ford Charge network comprises more than 1,200 Ford-branded fast chargers distributed across over 330 Ford dealerships in the United States and Canada. The company initiated Plug & Charge deployment in phases.

Ford targets completion of Plug & Charge integration at all Ford Charge dealer locations by early 2026. The rollout provides standardized automated charging access at dealership service centers.

Future Network Additions

Ford confirmed additional Plug & Charge expansion to BlueOval Charge Network partners in 2026. Shell Recharge joins the planned integration schedule.

The Ford mobile application displays real-time Plug & Charge capability status for individual charging stations. Users can verify Plug & Charge availability before route planning.

Pricing Structure

BlueOval Charge Network customers pay identical rates to direct charging provider payment methods. The network does not apply markup fees to charging session costs.

Individual charging networks offer optional paid subscription programs with discounted rates. Ford allows customers to maintain separate network subscriptions while using BlueOval Charge Network accounts for non-subscribed networks.

Technical Requirements

The Ford mobile application requires compatible smartphone platforms and is available via download. NACS adapters are required for Tesla Supercharger access. The network excludes Tesla-only chargers, CHAdeMO-only connectors, restricted-use private chargers, and non-networked charging stations.
