Kia Corporation has earned three honors at the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026, with the EV4 taking the competition’s highest “Best of the Best” distinction. The PV5 received a “Winner” award alongside Hyundai Motor Group’s MobED mobile robot platform, also named a Winner. Kia attributes the recognition to its “Opposites United” design philosophy, the framework guiding its current EV and purpose-built vehicle lineup. The EV4 win extends an unbroken four-year run of “Best of the Best” honors for Kia at Red Dot.
Highlights
- Kia EV4 took the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026 “Best of the Best” distinction, the competition’s highest honor.
- Kia PV5 received a “Winner” award, adding to a 2026 iF Design Awards Gold the PBV earned earlier this year.
- Hyundai Motor Group’s MobED mobile robot platform also received a “Winner” award, recognizing its Drive and Lift technology and Eccentric Wheel mechanism.
- The EV4 win marks Kia’s fourth consecutive Red Dot “Best of the Best” honor, following the EV6 in 2022, EV9 in 2024, and EV3 in 2025.
Why the EV4 Earned Red Dot’s Top Distinction
The Kia EV4 was recognized for what the company describes as a bold reinterpretation of the sedan, introducing a new typology to the traditional segment. Developed under the “Opposites United” philosophy, the EV4 features a fastback silhouette in its sedan form, while the hatchback variant combines compact, dynamic proportions with practicality targeted at European customers. The vehicle joins Kia’s run of Red Dot top honors stretching back to 2022 — a sequence the company points to as evidence of design consistency rather than one-off recognition.
Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design, framed the wins in design-philosophy terms. “It is an honour for Kia to once again be recognised by the Red Dot Design Award, especially with the EV4 achieving the highest distinction,” Habib said. “These awards reflect the impact of our ‘Opposites United’ philosophy in shaping mobility solutions that are both relevant and meaningful, delivering intuitive and seamless experiences for our users. From the EV4’s bold reinterpretation of the saloon to the PV5’s flexible, user-centred approach to PBV design, both vehicles demonstrate Kia’s commitment to bringing together emotional appeal with everyday practicality.”
How the PV5 Demonstrates Kia’s PBV Strategy
The PV5 took its Red Dot “Winner” honor for executing Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle approach in production form. The vehicle pairs a shared front-end design with rear modules adapted for different use cases, with variants spanning Passenger, Cargo, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), and Crew configurations. Kia reports that the modular approach is intended to deliver a consistent design identity across applications while optimizing space and usability for each. The Red Dot recognition follows a Gold award the PV5 received at the 2026 iF Design Awards earlier this year and adds to a growing awards portfolio for the PBV that includes the 2026 International Van of the Year title.
What Sets HMG’s MobED Apart
Developed by Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics LAB, MobED — short for Mobile Eccentric Droid — is a mobile robot platform built to operate across varied terrains and applications. The platform embodies Robotics LAB’s “Refined Edge” design philosophy, an approach the company describes as focused on how robots integrate into everyday human environments, shaping both physical form and interaction design.
Technically, MobED combines two proprietary systems:
- Drive and Lift (DnL) technology, supporting stable movement over uneven surfaces.
- Eccentric Wheel mechanism, designed to handle inclines and curbs.
An AI-based control layer manages the platform’s adaptability across environments. MobED was first revealed as a concept at CES 2022, with the production model introduced in 2025.
Kia’s Red Dot Track Record
The 2026 result continues a consistent pattern of top-tier Red Dot recognition for Kia’s electric vehicle lineup. The company’s “Best of the Best” production-vehicle winners now include:
- EV6 (2022)
- EV9 (2024)
- EV3 (2025)
- EV4 (2026)
Kia’s design competition success has spanned both production and concept work. In 2025, the brand collected five awards at the Red Dot: Design Concept competition, led by the PV5 WKNDR Concept’s “Best of the Best” honor in that separate track.
