Kia America has announced that it will provide North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its electric vehicles (EVs), specifically the EV6 and EV9 models, starting in early 2025. These adapters will significantly increase access to over 16,500 fast chargers across the United States. Kia aims to improve the overall charging experience and convenience for its EV customers, offering free adapters to new buyers and expanding purchase options for earlier adopters.
Key Highlights:
- Free NACS adapters for customers purchasing 2024-2025 Kia EV6 and EV9 models, starting from September 4, 2024.
- Access to over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers across the United States, starting January 2025.
- Three types of adapters available: NACS to CCS1, CCS1 to NACS, and J1772 to NACS.
- Existing Kia EV owners (pre-September 2024) can purchase adapters from authorized dealers.
- Integration with Kia Access app for seamless payment and navigation to charging stations after a software upgrade in 2025.
Kia EV6 and EV9 customers who purchase vehicles starting in September 2024 will receive the NACS adapters at no additional cost. These adapters will allow users to access a vast network of DC fast chargers, vastly improving the ease of charging while on the road. Those who purchased their vehicles before this date will have the option to buy the adapters from Kia dealerships at a later time.
Kia’s NACS to CCS1 adapter will allow current Kia EVs to connect with DC fast chargers. Additionally, CCS1 to NACS and J1772 to NACS adapters will enable NACS-equipped EVs to charge at CCS and AC Level 2 stations, respectively. This ensures that Kia drivers can access a broad range of charging stations, expanding their options by over 83 percent.
As part of the update, Kia will introduce new features within the Kia Access app, which will allow owners to locate and navigate to available charging points. This app will include real-time information on charger availability, pricing, and status, making the charging process even more convenient. These features will be available after a planned software update in early 2025.
Kia America continues to push forward in the electrified mobility space, ensuring its customers have access to the infrastructure they need for an improved driving and charging experience.
