British company L-Charge is launching its commercial operation of the world’s first mobile, ultra-fast, off-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging service in Amsterdam. The service, which allows EV owners to call a charger like a taxi and have their vehicle charged on demand, is expected to remove the main obstacle of a lack of supercharging infrastructure in the city.
L-Charge has noted the Netherlands’ high-quality electric energy supply infrastructure and the well-organized charging infrastructure for EVs. The country has made national agreements on interoperability and has a competitive market model for the development of the EV charging infrastructure. Despite the growth of public charging points, the current infrastructure is slow and limited in remote areas.
L-Charge is a global company that develops and produces off-grid EV charge points powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen, or a mixture of both. The company’s mobile charging van acts as a mini power station, producing electricity through clean fuels, and can be called through an app in a similar manner to a taxi. The van provides super-fast charging, going from 0% to 80% in 15-25 minutes.
The company’s solutions will offer companies in key sectors, including leisure and hospitality, retail, car manufacturing, vehicle rentals, and fleet management, the advantage of joining the new ultra-fast charging market. This will enhance their cost-effectiveness, resilience, and sustainability credentials.
“The EV infrastructure is in need of off-grid superchargers, which will still use clean fuels and will help to facilitate the transition towards electric transport,” noted a L-Charge representative.
