Las Vegas has officially become home to the world’s first Tesla Cybertruck police fleet, following the deployment of ten specially equipped units built by Unplugged Performance’s UP.FIT division for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
Highlights
- 10 Tesla Cybertrucks upfitted by UP.FIT now serve the LVMPD
- Fully equipped with pursuit-grade brakes, suspension, and police electronics
- Fleet funded entirely by private donors, with no taxpayer expense
- Each unit projected to save $47,540 over five years versus ICE patrol trucks

Advanced Design for Modern Policing
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony themed “Technology That Saves Lives,” LVMPD leadership showcased the UP.FIT Patrol Cybertruck, designed to outperform legacy patrol vehicles in durability, stopping power, and handling. Each Cybertruck is fitted with full police integration—including lights, sirens, PA system, prisoner partition, push bars, rock sliders, and pursuit-grade components—and connects with the department’s Remote Drone as a First Responder program.
Ben Schaffer, CEO of UP.FIT, described the collaboration as “engineering the police force of the future,” emphasizing shared goals of officer safety, operational superiority, and community well-being.

Sustainable and Cost-Efficient Fleet
LVMPD’s move to electric vehicles supports its sustainability strategy, reducing carbon emissions while improving operational efficiency. Sheriff Kevin McMahill noted that the trucks are designed to handle “everything from Fremont Street to Red Rock Canyon” and called them “a heck of a good recruiting tool.”
Funded entirely through a donation from Ben and Falicia Horowitz, the fleet imposes no cost on taxpayers. Each Cybertruck is expected to save between $8,800 and $12,000 per year in fuel, plus $3,540 in maintenance costs over five years—thanks to lower energy prices and fewer service requirements. With an 8-year/150,000-mile warranty, the vehicles could remain in service 1.5 times longer than traditional ICE patrol trucks.
Built in America
Assembled in Austin, Texas and upfitted in Hawthorne, California, the UP.FIT Patrol Cybertruck contains roughly twice the American-made content of comparable Ford and Chevrolet police vehicles, reinforcing its domestic manufacturing footprint.
