Lexus premiered the redesigned RZ, a battery electric vehicle (BEV), in Brussels, Belgium, with a rollout planned for fall 2025. This model introduces a Steer-by-Wire System, boosts driving range by up to 20%, and offers a high-performance RZ550e F SPORT variant. It blends luxury with electrification, refining the LEXUS Driving Signature for a smoother, more engaging ride. Featuring advanced technology like Interactive Manual Drive, the RZ aims to enhance driver connection while supporting Lexus’ push toward a carbon-neutral future.
Key Highlights
- Extended Range: AWD models reach 500 km, FWD models hit 575 km (European WLTP prototype values).
- Faster Charging: Optimized systems cut charging time by up to 30 minutes.
- Power Boost: RZ550e F SPORT delivers 300 kW (407.8 PS) for thrilling performance.
- Innovative Steering: First-ever Steer-by-Wire offers precise control with minimal input.

Lexus continues its electrification legacy, begun with the RX 400h in 2005, with electrified vehicles now comprising 52% of its lineup by 2024. The new RZ advances this mission, featuring a redesigned BEV system with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery and efficient eAxle. This setup increases motor output to 167 kW front and rear, enhancing acceleration and top speed. The DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system refines torque distribution, ensuring stability and responsiveness.
The Steer-by-Wire System, a Lexus first, replaces mechanical steering with electrical signals, reducing vibrations while improving maneuverability. Chief Engineer Shinya Ito said, “LEXUS is committed to refining electrification technologies to enhance the fundamental joy of driving and deliver new driving experiences.” The Interactive Manual Drive mimics a manual transmission with paddle shifters and engine-like sound, adding excitement.

The RZ550e F SPORT targets enthusiasts with sport-tuned suspension and exclusive design elements like NEUTRINO GRAY coloring. Inside, a dimmable panoramic roof and Ultrasuede® trim elevate luxury. With a cruising range of 450-575 km depending on the model, and a 4.4-second 0-100 km/h time for the F SPORT, the RZ balances practicality and performance. Lexus aims to redefine BEV driving, merging innovation with its signature refinement.
