LOVELAND, Colo. – Lightning eMotors, a leading provider of electric vehicles for fleets, has announced that its Class 3 Lightning ZEV3 all-electric passenger van has received Buy America certification. This certification, along with the recently announced Altoona Testing certification, makes the vehicle eligible for funding through the Federal Transit Administration Low- and No-Emissions grant program and other incentives.
The funds, which include $1 billion available in 2023, will enable organizations and companies to transition to electric vehicles more quickly, reducing their carbon footprint. To access these funds, zero- or low-emission transit vehicles must be Buy America certified and pass Altoona Testing.
“We believe it is important that our high-quality electric vehicles support American jobs,” said Chelsea Ramm, Vice President of Procurement at Lightning eMotors. “Over 80% of the manufacturing cost of ZEV3 models came from American materials.”
Lightning ZEV3 passenger vans are currently in use for micro-transit and shuttle services across North America. The van boasts a range of up to 200 miles and comes standard with Level 2 AC charging and DC Fast Charge capabilities. To date, over 300 Lightning ZEV3 vans have been deployed and have accumulated over 1.8 million miles.
