Lotus has announced the X Hybrid platform, a hybrid-electric system delivering 952 PS and a combined driving range exceeding 1,200 km (WLTP). The European debut will come in the Lotus Eletre X, expected to launch in June 2026 with customer deliveries in Q4 2026. All technical figures currently reference the China-market Lotus FOR ME SUV, which serves as the reference prototype. European specifications will be confirmed closer to launch.
Highlights
- 952 PS combined output from dual permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), with 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds
- 900V architecture enables 20–80% DC fast charging in approximately 9 minutes
- Up to 350 km of pure electric range (WLTP) from a 70 kWh battery; over 1,200 km combined with a 52-liter fuel tank
- Six powertrain operating modes adapt automatically to speed, state of charge, and driver demand

X Hybrid Platform: Four Core Pillars
Lotus built the X Hybrid around four design principles: Next Technology, Extra Power, Extreme Charging, and Extended Range. The system operates as an electric-first drivetrain. However, it seamlessly transitions between pure EV, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid modes to optimize efficiency and performance across conditions.
Next Technology: 150 kW Generator
A 150 kW onboard generator is central to the X Hybrid system. It can produce approximately 25 kWh per hour under suitable conditions. As a result, the battery can be replenished during cruising or highway travel, sustaining performance consistency on long-distance journeys.
Additional platform features include:
- Six operating scenarios: BEV AWD, Parallel AWD, Idle Charging, Series Discharging, Series Power Generation, Parallel Power Generation
- 900V high-voltage architecture supporting extreme charge and discharge capability
- Advanced thermal management for stable performance in temperature extremes

Extra Power: 952 PS Dual-Motor System
The reference platform pairs front and rear PMSM motors for a combined output of 700 kW (952 PS) and 935 Nm of torque. The system reaches 100 km/h from rest in 3.3 seconds. Notably, even at approximately 20% battery state of charge, the system can deliver up to 550 kW — sufficient for high-demand scenarios such as highway passing maneuvers.
Extreme Charging: 9-Minute 20–80% DC Charge
The 900V / 6C architecture supports ultra-fast DC charging from 20% to 80% in approximately 9 minutes. Additionally, four levels of regenerative braking recoup energy during everyday driving. Actual charging times will vary based on charger capability, ambient temperature, and initial state of charge.
Extended Range: 70 kWh Battery and 52-Liter Tank
Together, the battery and fuel system deliver a combined range exceeding 1,200 km. Daily commutes and short trips can be completed in full-electric mode using up to 350 km of EV-only range. The 52-liter fuel tank extends capability for longer journeys without compromising the electric-first character of the drivetrain.

Chassis and Handling
The FOR ME platform also previews Lotus-specific chassis technology expected to carry over to the Eletre X:
- 48V active anti-roll bar: Up to 1,400 Nm of torque with approximately 10 ms response; target roll angle under 1.5°/g
- Active rear spoiler: Four positions generating up to 120 kg of downforce (Aero, Downforce, Braking modes)
- Brembo 6-piston front brakes: 33.9-meter stopping distance from 100 km/h
- Dual-chamber air suspension: Dual-valve dampers reacting in as little as 2 ms; front double-wishbone layout
- Lotus-developed tires: Tuned for wet adhesion and high-speed stability
Interior and Technology
- Full Nappa leather interior (optional): Approximately 40 m², using 9 hides
- KEF Reference audio: 23 speakers, 2,160 W, 7.1.4 architecture
- PDLC dimming panoramic roof: 10 transparency levels, approximately 2.4 m² area, with 30 mm additional headroom compared to conventional structures
European Availability
Lotus will confirm full European technical specifications — including final outputs, WLTP range, and charging performance — closer to the Eletre X’s market introduction. The European launch is targeted for June 2026, with UK customer deliveries to follow Q4 2026 deliveries on the continent.
