Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius has provided a detailed preview of the highly anticipated next-generation CLA, showcasing its advanced technology and design during a first drive at the Mercedes-Benz test facility in Immendingen, Germany. The upcoming CLA model is the first of an entirely new family of vehicles at Mercedes-Benz, marking the start of a new chapter for the brand’s segment. The CLA will offer a choice between an advanced electric drivetrain and a high-tech hybrid electrified combustion engine, providing consumers with flexibility tailored to their preferences. Although still in a camouflaged prototype phase, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the distinctive headlight design, which draws inspiration from the Concept CLA Class.
In the video preview, Ola Källenius states, “With the CLA, we are ushering in a new era at Mercedes-Benz. We will substantially elevate every aspect of what our customers can expect from a Mercedes in this segment. The modular platform allows for maximum flexibility: We can offer the CLA in both a state-of-the-art electric drivetrain version and a hybrid electrified combustion engine version. Drivetrain Innovations
The electric version of the CLA is built on technology derived from the EQXX concept, integrating it into series production to achieve high performance and efficiency. This next-generation electric drivetrain includes a two-speed transmission, offering an ideal balance between sporty driving and energy efficiency. Additionally, the CLA will be available with a newly developed high-tech hybrid combustion engine. This engine, part of the MMA vehicle family, uses 48V technology paired with an electrified transmission, promising an enjoyable and efficient driving experience.
