Mercedes-Benz is amplifying its customer-centric approach by integrating North American Charging Standard (NACS) in its electric vehicles starting in 2025. Simultaneously, the German automaker is expanding access to the Tesla Supercharger network for its customers from 2024. Mercedes-Benz is also venturing into the creation of its own Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Network, aiming to inaugurate the first sites by the fourth quarter of 2023.
Why It Matters
As the first German original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to incorporate NACS ports into its upcoming electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz underscores its commitment to the accelerating transition to sustainable transportation. The move is anticipated to significantly simplify the charging process for the customers and stimulate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
Starting in 2024, Mercedes-Benz drivers can utilize over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America, enhancing the convenience of EV ownership. These Superchargers will be conveniently displayed in vehicle navigation and the Mercedes me Charge app, along with availability status and price details. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz is set to enhance its own High-Power Charging Network, aiming to establish more than 400 charging hubs, equipped with more than 2,500 high-power chargers by the end of the decade in North America.
Beyond North America, Mercedes-Benz is planning to launch over 2,000 charging hubs across Europe, China, and other key markets. The upcoming charging hubs will accommodate electric vehicles from all brands, reinforcing the company’s commitment to fostering wider EV adoption.
Mercedes-Benz is placing itself at the forefront of the EV revolution with its expansive charging strategies, including collaborating with Tesla Superchargers and establishing its own High-Power Charging Network. As the company continues to innovate in the realm of charging solutions, its actions not only affirm its strategic priority of delivering desirable vehicles but also herald a future where electric mobility is both seamless and convenient. As noted by Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Group AG, the company is “committed to elevating the entire EV-experience for our customers – including fast, convenient, and reliable charging solutions.”
