Nikola Corporation, recognized for its leadership in zero-emission transportation, has inaugurated its first HYLA high-pressure modular refueling station in Southern California. This event signifies a pivotal advancement in the development of a hydrogen refueling network tailored for Class 8 trucks. The Ontario-based station embodies Nikola’s commitment to enhancing the infrastructure required to support the widespread adoption of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.

The ceremony attracted fleet customers, Nikola’s dealership network, government officials, and the media. Among the attendees were Nikola executives and Joe Biagi from Biagi Bros., who, along with city and congressional representatives, contributed to the celebration’s success. The event highlighted Nikola’s technological advancements through demonstrations and discussions, focusing on the safety and efficiency of hydrogen fueling.
Operational since last month, the Ontario station is central to Nikola’s ambitious plan to construct up to nine refueling solutions by mid-2024, aiming for a total of 14 by year-end. This expansion is designed to support the increasing demand for hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks and promote the decarbonization of the transportation sector.
Nikola’s President of Energy, Ole Hoefelmann, emphasized the station’s role in driving a sustainable future for transportation, thanking the City of Ontario for its support. Congresswoman Norma Torres also expressed enthusiasm for the project’s impact on clean energy innovation and job creation within the Inland Empire.
The HYLA refueling network is poised to offer Nikola and other Class 8 customers versatile refueling options, including customer-owned and public facilities, underlining Nikola’s integrated approach to transforming commercial transport. This initiative is supported by Nikola’s broader mission to deliver zero-emission solutions, highlighted by its Phoenix, Arizona headquarters and manufacturing facility in Coolidge, Arizona.
